Artist Kim Stella May Glover was born in a small community in the Kootenay region of the southern B.C. Rocky Mountains. Here, she developed an admiration of nature, natural materials and the environment from a young age. In 1986, Glover and her family relocated to the Metro Vancouver area where she finished her formal schooling. In 1999, she began studies at Emily Carr University of Art & Design (formerly Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design) then went on to achieve a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Simon Fraser University's school for the contemporary arts with a major in visual arts, a minor in arts and culture studies and a certificate in the liberal arts. It was here, she developed a keen interest in sculpture, installation and exploring the boundaries between two and three dimensional art forms.
After completing her B.F.A., Glover began working in the arts and culture sector in various roles teaching art, leading tours as a Docent at the Surrey Art Gallery, working full-time at the local art store as well as working to develop her own studio practice.
In 2009, Glover achieved a Bachelors of Education specializing in secondary school art education following her passions for teaching and art production. Glover began travelling and teaching art across Canada at the elementary, secondary and middle school levels.
In 2014, Glover began a Masters of Art Education through Boston University, MA, USA, while teaching full-time in Northern Alberta. Glover’s research thesis studied and critically examined models and practices of Art-Centered Schooling: Integrating the Interdisciplinary Arts Across the Curriculum (2016). In 2016, shortly after completing her Masters she began expanding her artistic practice to explore textiles and encaustics furthering her technical skills and informing her studio and teaching practices.
In the summer of 2016, Glover relocated back to the lower mainland, British Columbia, to pursue a career in art education and production. Her love of materials and learning continues to inspire her and inform her practice as an artist, creator, teacher and researcher.
